Eastern Airways

About Eastern Airways

Eastern Airways is a UK carrier that was founded in 1997, and subsequently bought out Air Kilroe in 1999 to access additional infrastructure. It is mostly focused on domestic flights but also offers some European routes. The airline's headquarters are at Humberside Airport in North Lincolnshire, but its biggest operating base is at Aberdeen Airport in Scotland. Eastern Airways has further bases at Durham Tees Valley, Wick Airport, East Midlands Airport, Norwich Airport, Leeds Bradford International Airport and Newcastle Airport. The airline has a 30-strong fleet, mostly BAe Jetstream 41s along with some Embraer and Saab planes.

It operates flights to more than 20 destinations, including the Eastern Airways flights from Norwich to Aberdeen, flights from Aberdeen to the Shetland Islands and flights to Cardiff. Norwich to Aberdeen is probably its most popular route. A codeshare agreement with Wideroe allows it to offer flights from Aberdeen to Bergen, in Norway.

Online check-in

Passengers are not able to check in online for Eastern Airways flights, but the company does offer an Express check-in service in order to make checking in at the airport as fast as possible. The idea behind this is to provide a special line through airport security that is exclusively for Eastern Airways passengers. This special line, known as Fast Track, is available at Birmingham, Aberdeen, Southampton, East Midlands, Cardiff, Newcastle and Leeds Bradford airports. This allows passengers to avoid long queues and save time. On top of this, passengers can check in for company flights right up until half an hour before takeoff for both international and domestic flights.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers are allowed up to 2 hand luggage items weighing no more than 10 kg. These items need to be smaller than 56 x 4x 25 cm. On Eastern Airways' Jetstream aircraft there is not enough room in the cabin for larger hand luggage items (those that cannot fit under a plane seat), meaning these items will be placed in the hold. It is important to note however they will be given back to passengers straight away upon exiting the aircraft, not at the baggage carousel as with other airlines. This and other elements of Eastern Airways service reflect its focus on business customers.

Checked baggage allowance

Every passenger is entitled to 15 kg of checked baggage. Any luggage weighing more than 15 kg will be subject to an excess baggage charge. Passengers should also be aware that Eastern Airways will refuse to carry any items of luggage which weigh more than 32 kg. Passengers may also take a stroller at no extra cost. Due to the size of Eastern Airlines' planes, it is not possible for them to check in large sporting items such as surfboards or hang gliders. Other sports equipment, including golf clubs and skis may be accepted although this is not guaranteed and passengers should check in advance.
