About Air Moldova
Air Moldova is Moldova's flag carrier airline and was founded in 1993, although its roots can be traced much further back to 1944. Its base is at Chi?in?u International Airport, a hub from which it flies routes to more than 20 destinations mainly throughout Europe. Among these routes are popular flights to Istanbul and Antalya in Turkey, Florence and Turin in Italy, Kiev in the Ukraine and Moscow in Russia. The company also runs a seasonal route further afield to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. The airline has a fleet of 6 aircraft that operate all of its flights, with most of these being Airbus aircraft plus some other Embraer E-190s.
Online check-in for Air Moldova flights opens 24 hours before a flight is scheduled to leave and closes 2 hours before take-off. Online check-in is not available departing from Paris, Surgut, Madrid, Antalya, Florence and Heraklion, or on flights departing from or arriving at London. It is also not available for groups of passengers, children traveling unaccompanied or passengers who need special assistance. Passengers who have checked in online can check in luggage at one of the airport drop-off counters. This must be done a minimum of 60 minutes before a flight is scheduled to leave.
Hand luggage allowance
Air Moldova baggage allowance for hand luggage allows for each passenger to have 1 item. This can weigh up to 8 kg and measure up to 50 x 40 x 25cm, including protrusions such as wheels, handles and pockets. Hand luggage should be able to fit either under the seat, in front of the passenger or in the overheard locker. Any hand luggage that is deemed either too big or too heavy will have to be checked underneath instead and will incur a fee for the passenger. Passengers may also take personal items such as coats, rugs, umbrellas, handbags, camera bags or books on board. Passengers with a child under 2 years old can also take baby food, a stroller, and basket on board. Passengers who require them will be allowed to take a folding wheelchair or crutches onto the plane. Small musical instruments are also acceptable as hand luggage.
Checked baggage allowance
When it comes to checked luggage, the Air Moldova baggage policy varies depending on the passenger's ticket class and the route they are flying. In most cases, the checked baggage allowance will be as follows, but it's always worth passengers checking the specific allowance for their flight by contacting Opodo direct. Economy class passengers can take 1 item of checked baggage, which should not weigh more than 23 kg. This may be increased to 2 or even 3 items on some routes. Economy Premium and Business class passengers can take 2 items of checked baggage, which should not weigh more than 23 kg.
On some routes this increases to 3 items. For all ticket types and routes, the maximum size for baggage on an Air Moldova flight is a combined width, height and length of 158 cm. Infants under 2 years old have an allowance of 10 kg and a folding stroller. If a passenger's baggage exceeds their allowance, they will have to pay an extra charge. The company will not accept any single item of luggage that weighs more than 32 kg. Sports equipment may also be taken as checked baggage without charge as long as it fits within a passenger's allowance. The normal maximum dimensions do not apply to sports equipment.
