About Lan Airlines

Founded in 1929 as Línea Aeropostal Santiago-Arica, LAN Airlines took its current name in 2005 before changing its to LATAM Airlines in 2016. Until the 1990s, the company was Chile's national flag carrier and one of the largest Latin American airlines, operating many flights to Europe and the Caribbean, plus North and Latin America. It had a number of codeshare agreements with other airlines including British Airways, Japan Airlines, Iberia, Qantas Airways and TAM Airlines.

LAN Airlines had a fleet of 150 aircraft that flew to over 65 worldwide destinations. European destinations that were serviced by the airline included Frankfurt in Germany, Milan in Italy and Madrid in Spain. It was also possible to get a LAN Airlines flight to Sydney Airport in Australia and Auckland Airport in New Zealand. North American destinations flown to included Los Angeles, New York and Miami whilst South American destinations included Buenos Aires in Argentina, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Lima in Peru.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for their LATAM Airlines flight from 48 hours up until 2 hours before the flights scheduled time of departure. In order to check in, passengers have to enter their surname as well as the reservation code of their flight. During the check-in process, passengers are able to select where they would like to sit and print off their boarding pass, or have it sent to their email address to be printed off at a later date. Checking in online will save passengers from having to wait in long queues at the airport on the date of departure.

The hand luggage may not however, exceed 55 x 35 x 25 cm and weigh more than 8 kg for Economy Class passengers or 16 kg for Premium Economy or Business Class passengers. It is possible to take additional baggage on board by paying a fee. The size of the luggage should not exceed 158 cm when all dimensions have been added together, while the maximum weight allowed is 23 kg.
