WOW air is an Icelandic airline based out of Keflavik International Airport and headquartered in Reykjavik. It is a low-cost airline that was established in 2011 and began operations after purchasing the network of the now defunct Iceland Express airline. Since its first flight in 2012, the company has built up a fleet of 8 aircraft. Included in this fleet are a mixture of Airbus A320, A321 and A330 planes.
WOW air operates flights to destinations in North America and Europe by taking advantage of Iceland's unique location. WOW air flights serve more than 20 cities in various countries, with most of its destinations located in Europe. There are however also some in Canada and the United States. Some popular travel hotspots served by the airline include Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Berlin in Germany, Dublin in Ireland, London in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles in the United States. Although it has not joined SkyTeam, oneworld, Star Alliance or any other airline alliance, it does have codeshare agreements with Scandinavian Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Finnair.
Passengers can check in online for a WOW air flight regardless of the route they are travelling on. For this, they will need their booking confirmation number. The earliest that it is possible to check in online is 24 hours prior to a flight, with the latest being 1 hour before takeoff. If passengers are travelling to the United States on a non-direct flight, online check-in opens 24 hours before their second flight's scheduled takeoff time. The online check-in process can also be used to select seats for the flight and purchase additional luggage allowance. When they are finished, passengers can print out their boarding card. The airline also has airport counters where checked luggage can be dropped off.
Passengers are entitled to a single item of hand luggage on all WOW air flights. This single item is limited to a maximum weight of 5 kg and maximum dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Passengers can also pay to add an extra 7 kg to their hand luggage allowance. In this case, they are still only allowed 1 item up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm, however it may weigh up to 12 kg. Passengers can also bring 1 carrier bag of duty-free purchases on board the aircraft. This will not be considered to constitute part of their hand luggage allowance.
A checked luggage allowance is not included with standard WOW air bookings. Passengers can choose to add a checked luggage allowance to their booking either when they are purchasing the ticket or at any time up until 24 hours prior to their flight's departure. This can be done online or by calling the airline's customer service team. Checked luggage items are subject to a maximum weight of 20 kg and to a combined height, length and width of 158 cm. Luggage heavier or larger than these limits will incur excess charges. The airline will also refuse to carry any luggage larger than 32 kg.
The only complaint I have is that I could not check in online in time for me to be somewhere I could print out boarding passes and having cabin only luggage, paid for, this meant I had to spend queuing at Gatwick to check in. However, at Keflavik on the way back there were plenty of machines where you could check in and a boarding card was printed without having to queue at check in.
The good parts -leg room and friendly cabin crew -everything else awful. This was a sudden trip as my dad died and I didn't want my usual Christmas. Firstly they would not accept my ETA for Canada unless I had a printout(cleartly not required by Canada. They refused to let me on and refused to let me see a supervisor by now I was really upset at the thought of spending Christmas without my dad or partner. They didn't care. Luckily a man working for Gatwick proved to them it was valid. Anyone with luggage a cm over was charged on the spot(there cabin allowance is less then Ryan Air) Everyone of our 4 planes was late and coming back we arrived at Gatwick 7 hours late, having had to wait 3hours at Kefala in a freezing cold airport. All food and entertainment had to be paid for and was very expensive -even though we waited on planes for over an hour no drink was offered.. Think carefully before using this seemingly cheap airline there are countless hidden costs.
I was charged a hold luggage fee because my cabin luggage 'looked to big'. The overall size is under the requirements and the weight was well under 10kg. Also, it fits easily in to the overhead storage. Wow indeed.
Good, But no luggage lockers or foreign newspapers on sale at Keflavik.
Awful! Waste of Money! Absolutely disgusted with the service offered by Wow Air!
Probably wont do this again. After paying for extra luggage online and s carry-on. I was chsrgedva additional 60 British pounds. And forced to check my carry on .. the plane boarded late , left late. And arrived late.. to bevquite honest. I wish I had booked avdifferent airline . After all the extrs charged I could have flown non stop , had several meals. Unlimited drinks included . And arrived ontime. Total scam. I should at least get my 70 pounds back.
no in-flight entertainment..... on a long haul that's not acceptable. also at no point did any cabin crew see if i was ok or needed anything - i was completely ignored. only positive was the legroom.
Excessive charge for so-called large cabin luggage; expensive beverage and snack on board. I shall not recommend Wow Air to anyone
Friendly, on time. Reykjavik airport is a great place to transit as the next departure gate is close by and the loos are the largest and cleanest of any airport I have been in
