About Alaska Airlines

Founded in 1932 as McGee Airways, Alaska Airlines commenced operations in 1944 and is part of the Alaskan Air Group with Horizon Air, its sister company. The airlines main hubs are located at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Portland International Airport, whilst its focus city airport can be found at San Jose International Airport. It has codeshare agreements with a number of other airlines including Delta Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Air France and Aeromexico.

Alaska Airlines has a fleet of 155 aircraft that fly to more than 100 destinations around the world. The airline mainly travels to American destinations such as San Francisco International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. It also flies to the Mexican destinations of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City and Manzanillo as well as Vancouver International Airport in Canada and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Costa Rica.

Online check-in

All passengers can check in online to Alaska Airlines flights from 24 hours up until 1 hour before the departure of their flight. In order to check in online, passengers must enter their departure city as well as either their confirmation code, credit card number, mileage plan number or e-ticket number. Once the check-in process is complete, passengers can print off their boarding pass. It is also possible for passengers to check into their flight using a mobile device via the airline's app. Using the app, passengers can also store their boarding pass to make it even more convenient when at the airport on the date of departure.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers flying on an Alaska Airlines flight are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage as well as a personal item, such as a laptop or handbag, free of charge. The dimensions of the hand baggage must not exceed 61 x 43 x 25 cm. The hand luggage should be placed in the overhead locker above the passenger whilst the smaller items should fit in the space under the seat in front of the passenger. Liquids are allowed to be taken on board as long as the individual containers cannot hold more than 100 ml. All containers should be able to fit into a sealed see-through plastic bag.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers flying on Alaska Airlines flights are allowed to take several pieces of checked luggage with them but there will be a charge for each piece. There is a different fee for luggage weighing up to 23 kg and pieces weighing over 23 kg, which will be treated as oversized baggage. The size of the individual pieces of luggage should not exceed 158 cm when all dimensions have been added together. For oversized luggage, no single piece should weigh more than 45 kg or be larger than 292 cm when all dimensions have been added together. Passengers are advised to label all luggage with their name and address.

The journey from San Francisco to Vancouver was a pleasant flight with helpful staffs. Definitely get a Canadian tourist visa sorted out before planning to travel. I had to book another flight because I missed it and it's 50/50 if I needed a visa or not.
