About Hawaiian Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines has a long history stretching all the way back to its establishment in 1929. Originally known as Inter-Island Airways, it is based at Hawaii International Airport with additional operating centres at Kahului Airport, Kona International Airport and Lihue Airport. The airline operates a fleet of more than 50 aircraft including ATR, Airbus and Boeing airplanes. From its main hub Hawaiian Airlines flies to locations in continental United States, New Zealand, Australia and Asia plus inter-island destinations within Hawaii. Of its nearly 30 routes, those to Sydney, Los Angeles, New York and Auckland are popular with passengers.
The airline has not become a member of an airline alliance, but it does work with a number of other airlines through codeshare agreement. Those airlines are Virgin America, American Airlines, China Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air China, Korean Air, Philippine Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, All Nippon Airways, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, JetBlue, Virgin Australia and Asiana Airlines. It also owns a subsidiary called Ohana by Hawaiian, which focuses on flights between Hawaii's islands.
Online check-in
Using their booking confirmation or ticket number, passengers are able to check in for their Hawaiian Airlines flights online. This facility is available between 24 hours and 1 hour prior to a flight's take off time. It is not available in certain situations, namely for non-Chinese passengers flying to Beijing, passengers who are part of a group booking, passengers who have special requirements, or passengers travelling one way only on international flights. Passengers can also check in using the airline's self-service kiosks or manned counters at the airport. There is no extra charge for this. Check-in closes an hour before international flights, 45 minutes before flights to the mainland United States and 30 minutes before flights between Hawaii's islands.
Hand luggage allowance
All passengers have the same hand luggage allowances on a Hawaiian Airlines flight that stipulate they may each bring 1 bag and 1 personal item. Example personal items include handbags, laptop bags and briefcases. The maximum weight for hand luggage is 11.5 kg and all items of hand luggage must have combined dimensions (width, length and height) of no more than 114 cm. Hand luggage items must be able to fit either into the overhead storage or under the seat in front of the passenger. If they are travelling with infants, passengers receive additional hand luggage allowance to bring a car seat or stroller.
Checked baggage allowance
The allowances for checked luggage are different for a domestic Hawaiian Airlines flight and for international flights with the airline. Economy passengers on domestic flights do not have any checked luggage allowance included with their ticket, but they can choose to add this. First class passengers on domestic flights are entitled to bring 2 items of checked luggage. Items of checked luggage on domestic flights are limited to 23 kg in weight and 157 cm in combined dimensions. On international flights, all passengers are entitled to 2 pieces of checked luggage. These pieces must not have combined dimensions of more than 157 cm. Passengers in Economy class are limited to 23 kg per item and passengers in Business class are limited to 32 kg in item. On all routes, passengers will be charged if they exceed their allowance either in weight, size or number of pieces.
