About Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways is based in Nairobi and is Kenya's national flag carrier airline, and was formed after the breakup of its forerunner, East African Airways, in 1977. Initially owned by the Kenyan government, the airline became the first African flag carrier to be privatized in 1996, however, the Kenyan government still retains a large number of shares in the company. It owns 45 airplanes, which are a mixture of Boeing and Embraer aircraft.

From its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the airline offers flights to more than 60 destinations such as Copenhagen, Accra and Hong Kong. Since its foundation in 1977 it has been a part of the African Airlines Association, and subsequently joined the SkyTeam alliance in 2010. Its entrance into the SkyTeam alliance was sponsored by KLM, which owns a large number of shares in the airline. As well as its alliance membership, the airline also has codeshare agreements with several other carriers, including Air France, Korean Air and China Southern Airlines.

Passengers on international flights should check in a minimum of 2 hours and 30 minutes prior to their flight's departure, with counters closing 1 hour before takeoff. Some potential personal items include laptops, cameras, handbags or briefcases. They may also take 1 bag of duty-free purchases on board. Children under 2 years old are allowed 1 piece of hand luggage up to 12 kg.

On domestic Kenya Airways flights, Economy passengers can take 1 piece of checked luggage weighing up to 23 kg. Premier World passengers may also take 1 item of checked luggage weighing up to 32 kg on domestic routes. On international flights Economy passengers are allowed 2 items of checked luggage each weighing up to 23 kg, while Premier World passengers are entitled to 2 items of checked luggage, each weighing up to 32 kg.
