We’re very proud to announce that Opodo Prime has reached 1 million global members! Launching in 2017, Prime has been saving money for our customers around the world, on every flight and hotel booked. Here we take a look at some fun facts we’ve collected over the years of customer travel as Prime members, and dive into what makes Opodo Prime the best travel loyalty program in the world.

Fun facts about flying with Opodo Prime

Our Prime members have travelled a whopping 3021.8 million kilometres combined over the years. That’s the same as travelling 75,403 times around the world’s circumference, and we’re proud of each and every one of these proverbial trips around the world. Some of our members have single-handedly completed an entire trip around the world on their own. The record for the number of destinations on one booking by a Prime member is 15! If you could go around the world in 15 destinations, which ones would you choose?

Opodo Prime members travel far and wide. Whilst there’s not much left of the world to visit, we have found a few destinations that we consider to be rare gems. If you’re all about the road less travelled, and off-the-grid destinations, then have a look at these spots. Wild, beautiful and unspoilt – these are the most remote destinations that have been visited. Do you dare go where others have yet to wander?

The most remote destinations Prime members have visited

Ranong, Thailand

Koh Phayam, Ranong, Thailand

Thailand is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, so it may come as a surprise that the idyllic coastal province of Ranong doesn’t get as much attention as the rest of the country. A long rainy season (April – October) might deter some travellers, but if you choose the right time of year, a visit to Ranong is worth it. Just off the coast is the island of Koh Phayam.

It’s an unfrequented island in Thailand, but has all the makings of one of the most popular islands. Unspoilt white sand beaches, mangroves and cashew trees. Any research into Koh Phayam will see it continuously described as “off the beaten track”, which is exactly what it is. Koh Phayam is what the renowned Thai islands like Koh Samui and Phuket used to be like 50 years ago. An island for locals where the pace of life is slow and internet connectivity is relatively unheard of. No cars, no ATMs, just unspoilt nature and a handful of beachside bars.

Norfolk Island, Australia

The old penitentiary on Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is a tiny Australian island in the South Pacific Ocean. And we really do mean tiny. Just 8km long and 5km wide, what the island lacks in size it makes up for in breathtaking scenery, friendly neighbourliness and an intriguing past. It’s the only place on earth where the telephone book lists people under their nicknames, and cows have right of way. Norfolk pine trees are found all over the island and are a matter of pride amongst the locals. Seeds of the Norfolk Island pines are exported, and the flag of Norfolk Island proudly depicts a pine tree.

Back in 1824, the island was a penitentiary for the worst offenders from the British convict settlements in Australia, and the fruits of the labour from the convict settlement are still visible around the island today. The unspoilt paradise of Norfolk Island is a huge 1,676 km away from Sydney. Its remote location in the middle of the ocean may explain the lack of visits from Opodo Prime members. But, direct flights to Norfolk Island are available from Sydney and Brisbane, and it’s definitely worth the trek!

Andenes, Norway

Remotee Andenes beach in Norway

On the windswept northern tip of Norway’s Andøya island lies the small town of Andenes. A place so quiet and tranquil, they may as well have invented the word “remote”. The lack of tourists has no bearing on the beauty of this destination, which undoubtedly has some of the best beaches in the country, stunning coastal roads and an abundance of wildlife left to flourish without bother.

Andenes has been a fishing village since the Middle Ages, and the traditional town centre makes for a good base from which to explore the island. Go hiking, whale watching and cycling to fully enjoy this remote Nordic paradise. The Andenes airport is very small and welcomes only a few national flights from Norway. Yes, getting to Andenes is not that simple, but the best hidden-spots never are!

How does Opodo Prime save you money?

Benefits of Opodo Prime

With a Prime subscription, you get access to exclusive prices on flights and accommodation that are often cheaper than booking directly with the airline or hotel. Every time you book with Opodo Prime, you save money. The amount you save depends on what you are booking, and the total cost of your booking, but the one thing that doesn’t change is that there is always a discount. Since the launch of Prime, members have saved an average of €250 per holiday. The guaranteed saving on every booking has enabled our Prime members to travel more and go further with us. 29% of Prime bookings are for intercontinental travel, compared to just 23% of non-prime bookings.

How many times a year do you book a holiday? If you travel more than once a year, Opodo Prime saves you money. With an average saving of £215 per holiday booking, most Prime members have already made back the £59.99 cost of Prime, and more, on their first booking.

  • The annual cost of Prime: £59.99
  • Average saving on a one week holiday including accommodation and return flights for 2 people: £215

Top destinations for Opodo Prime members

Over the years of Prime bookings, it’s clear to see that our members favour some destinations. Namely, the big European cities, which are by far the most flown to places for our customers. These are a few of our top destinations, and what makes them so popular amongst Prime members.

Paris

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Paris is the top destination amongst Opodo Prime members. An iconic city with romantic charm and arguably the best cuisine in the world, Paris is the favourite destination for weekends away at any time of year. Monument-lined boulevards, luxury fashion boutiques and chic street-side cafes are what gives Paris its undeniable tag as the most stylish city in the world. With plenty of low-cost airlines flying in and out of the city daily, Paris is cheap and easy to get to. It also acts as a central travel hub that connects Europe to the rest of the world.

Madrid

Old Square in Madrid, Spain

Spain’s capital city is captivating and full of energy. The Madrileños certainly know how to live life, and it’s infectious to all who visit. It’s no wonder that travellers go back again and again to experience all that this city has to offer. Madrid has plenty of gems for its tourists, from a renowned nightlife that stretches into the morning, to a rich culinary culture and majestic architecture. Cheap flights to Madrid are available from almost all major cities in both Europe and the rest of the world, and the ease of getting there has made it become one of the most visited destinations in the world for Opodo Prime members.

Istanbul

Colourful street in Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is the most popular destination for hotel bookings for Prime members. Lured in by the melting pot of cultures, travellers fall in love with this ancient city that seems to have a sprinkling of magic over it. Istanbul’s vibrant culture and living history speak for themselves. It’s the only city in the world to straddle two continents, and the traditions it takes from both Europe and Asia create a unique city that has been drawing people in for centuries. Cheap hotels in Istanbul are easy to come by and the hospitality here is excellent.
