News Ryanair bag rules and allowances

Ryanair bag rules and allowances

Every fare includes a small personal bag, while selected fares and upgrades provide additional cabin or Check-in Bags.

How Ryanair's bag allowance works

One small under-seat bag is included on every Ryanair flight at no additional cost. If you want additional luggage, different cabin and checked bag allowances are available with this Irish airline's range of travel classes.

Key allowances:

* Small Personal Bag: This can be no larger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm and must go under the seat in front of you.

* Cabin Bag: These over-head bags cannot exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm. With a weight limit of 10kg, these go in the overhead locker.

* Check-in Bags: Available with allowances of 10 kg, 20 kg or 23 kg, depending on the fare.

Additional bag options

If the included allowance is not enough, consider these Ryanair bag upgrades and related rules.

10kg Check-in Bag

Leave this bag at the airport check-in desk before security and collect it after landing. It is a practical alternative when Priority & 2 Cabin Bags is sold out.

20kg Check-in Bag

This standard hold option is limited to 80 x 120 x 120 cm. Up to 3 20kg Check-in Bags can be purchased per booking.

23kg Check-in Bag

Where available, you can add 1 23kg Check-in Bag per booking. No individual bag may weigh more than 32 kg, and an excess weight fee applies for each kilo above 23 kg.

Bag pooling and size limits

Passengers with Check-in Bags on the same flight reservation may pool their total weight allowance. Airport fees apply when a bag is oversized or overweight.

Taking sports or music equipment

Sports or music equipment may travel in the cabin when it fits within your cabin bag allowance. Larger pieces can be checked in for a fee, generally with a 20 kg allowance. Bicycles, on the other hand, have a higher 30 kg allowance but must be packed in a protective box or bike bag.

Excess baggage charges apply per kilo above the established limit.
